Sterling Park Residents Run for Peace

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services will sponsor a 5K run through Sterling Park to promote peace on the streets Saturday, April 14.

The department’s Carlos Vera and a group of Loudoun County teens helped organized the first race of its kind in response to recent acts of violence through the neighborhood and the county.

"The race is intended to raise awareness of youth violence and gang activity in the Sterling Community," Vera said.

Participants, ages 9 and up, can register at Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services, 215 Depot Court, S.E. in Leesburg, any community center or online at www.loudoun.gov/prcs. The cost is $10 for children and $20 for adults 18 and up. Proceeds will go to the department’s youth development programs, such as Youth After School (YAS).

Runners will meet at 8:30 a.m., on the corner of Commerce and Enterprise streets in Sterling Park, the day of the race.
