<sh>Hearing Set
<bt>Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) announced Sept. 20, that the House Resources Subcommittee on National Parks will hold a hearing on legislation that would establish the Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Heritage Area. The hearing will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., 1324 Longworth House Office Building in Washington, D.C. The Journey Through Hallowed Ground follows the Route 15 corridor along 175 miles from Gettysburg, Pa., to Charlottesville, Va. To learn more visit www.house.gov/wolf.
<sh>Surplus Store Open
<bt>Filing cabinets and laptop computers will be featured at the next opening of the Loudoun County Surplus Store Saturday, Sept. 30.
The filing cabinets are sturdy and are priced at $10 a drawer. Most of the filing cabinets are five-drawer models, but there will also be some lateral file cabinets and two-drawer models available. The laptop prices will range from $75 to $200.
The sale also will feature other office items, such as desks, tables and dry-erase boards. In addition to normal office items, the store often features unclaimed items confiscated by the Sheriff's Office, such as bicycles and sporting equipment.
The Surplus Store is open on the first, second and third Friday and the last Saturday of each month. Operating hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The store is located at 14 Cardinal Park Drive, Suite 106, in Leesburg.

<sh>Growth Debate
<bt>The Dulles South Business Alliance (DSBA) is hosting a moderated debate on growth in Dulles South as its second Dulles South Community Forum, Wednesday, Oct. 4, 6:45-9:30 p.m., Arcola Community Center, 24328 Goshen Road, Aldie. DSBA has invited the Piedmont Environmental Council and the Right Growth Policy Institute to join them in this debate.
The debate will focus on two aspects of growth that were identified as most important to the attendees of the first DSBA Community Forum, held in June: fiscal impact and transportation. Each participating group will have an opportunity to express its views regarding these topics and then there will be an opportunity for rebuttals from other participants. At the end of the debate, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers in an open question and answer period.
This debate is open to the public and there is no charge for attending.
<sh>Man Charged
<bt>A West Virginia man who led deputies on a 10-minute pursuit along Route 15 Tuesday, Sept. 19, was being held without bond at the Loudoun Adult Detention Center on eluding and drug charges.
According to the Sheriff's Office, James Wesley Wilson, 20, is charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, felony speed to elude, two counts of felony hit and run and resisting arrest. After Wilson was apprehended a bag that had been thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit was recovered. The bag contained approximately one pound of suspected marijuana. Deputies also recovered nearly $700 in cash, according to the Sheriff's Office.
According to the Sheriff's Office, around 2:45 a.m. Wilson's Ford SUV drove into the path of a deputy who was conducting stationary RADAR on Route 15 near Courtland Farm Lane. The vehicle passed the deputy well in excess of the posted speed limit.
As the deputy attempted to catch up with the vehicle he observed the SUV turn off its lights and turn onto Courtland Farm Lane. The vehicle lost control and struck a parked vehicle. As the vehicle was attempting to drive away the deputy exited his patrol car and ordered the driver to stop. The driver then fled back onto Route 15 where he headed towards Leesburg at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle turned onto Route 704 where it would run over stop sticks placed in the roadway near Dunlop Mill Road by a Loudoun deputy. The stop sticks damaged the two front tires of the vehicle and the driver lost control striking a telephone pole and several street signs. The suspect fled on foot and ran into a wooded area where he would be apprehended after a short struggle.
Wilson was taken to the Cornwall Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital but was later transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. He was released from the hospital late Thursday afternoon.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jessica Lynn Blanks, 20, of Nokesville, was charged with possession of marijuana.
<sh>Truck Inspections
<bt>A commercial motor vehicle checkpoint held Wednesday, Sept. 20, near Arcola saw 11 out of the 30 trucks inspected taken out of service, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The inspection, held along Route 606 near Pebble Run Road, began at 6:30 a.m. and concluded shortly after noon. During the inspection more than 36 percent of the trucks inspected were found to have safety violations forcing the trucks to be pulled to the side of the roadway until the problem was either fixed or the issue was resolved. In all 18 citations were issued for safety violations including defective equipment Ñ brakes and tires Ñ and driver violations including improper licensing.
