Boys in grades one through five who live in south Reston are invited to attend open houses in September to learn more about Cub Scouts. "Join Scouting Nights" will be held at Terraset School on Sept. 21, both at 7 p.m. A Cub Scout membership table will be part of Back to School Night at Sunrise Valley School on Sept. 21. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Steering Committee invites nominations for the 2007 Community Service Awards, which will be presented Monday, Jan. 15, 2007. Awards are based on contributions to the community in support of tolerance and equal opportunities, efforts that reduce poverty and promotion of non-violence and conflict resolution. Nominations for youth, young adults, adults and businesses are due Monday, Oct. 2. Del. Kenneth R. "Ken" Plum will host a month-long series on transportation issues on his weekly television program, "Virginia Report," on Reston Comcast Channel 28. "Virginia Report" is shown every Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and repeated every Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. During the next four weeks Plum will have transportation-related conversations with Bob Chase of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance on Sept. 19 and 20, Dennis Morrison, District Administrator for the Virginia Department of Transportation on Sept. 26 and 27, and Patty Nicoson of the Dulles Corridor Rail Association on Oct. 3 and 4.

The Vienna Woman’s Club seeks craft vendors for its 46th Annual Harvest Bazaar and Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 11. The event features local crafters, bake sale, and children’s activity.
