Herndon’s HomeGrown Farmer’s Market, a weekly marketplace offering fresh fruits and vegetables, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams and more - all sold by the people who produce them, continues every Thursday morning from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. through Oct. 26. Herndon Community Center Aquatics Department is looking for swimming instructors to teach classes in its Learn to Swim program. The program provides classes for students of all ages, from infants to adults, and are available weekdays, evenings and weekends. Experience is a plus, but the HCC offers training for the right candidates. HCC is located at 814 Ferndale Ave. Call Teresa at 703-787-7300, Ext. 2122.

The Bargain Loft is a local thrift store located at 336 Victory Drive in Herndon. All the money made by the Bargain Loft goes to help Herndon/Reston FISH, which helps people with emergency needs such as money for rent, utilities or medicines. Bargain Loft is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The store has two shifts, 10 a.m.-noon and afternoons from noon-2 p.m. The Loft particularly needs people on Saturdays and can always use teens who want to acquire some community service time. Herndon Parks & Recreation Department is seeking qualified instructors for the Winter Quarter to teach children’s craft classes, dog obedience, arts and crafts classes, knitting, basket weaving, Bridge and floral arranging. If interested, contact 703-787-7300 or www.herndon-va.gov.

The Closet is a nonprofit thrift shop in Herndon run by a consortium of faith communities in the area. The store, located at 845 Station Street in downtown Herndon, 703-437-7652, is open for making purchases on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Donations are accepted in the rear of the building on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
