Motorists traveling through Sterling Park will notice some changes in traffic patterns.
This week, new signs were placed in the right-hand lane of Holly Avenue at the intersection of Sterling Boulevard making the lanes “right turn only,” Kraig Troxell, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said. The left lane is for through traffic and left-hand turns.
“It was based on traffic volume causing backups,” he said.
After an evaluation, Virginia Department of Transportation determined that making a right-hand lane a turn lane and allowing right turns at red traffic lights would alleviate some of the traffic.
Motorists who disobey the new signs may be ticketed for improper turn or failure to obey a highway sign.
