A 53-year-old Herndon man, Joseph A. Passarelli, was struck by a vehicle in an apparent hit-and-run while crossing Herndon Parkway as he walked his dog in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 20, according to a release from the Herndon Police Department.
The man was taken by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital after an officer was flagged down by a female driver who found the man in the street. He died as a result of his injuries Monday afternoon.
The collision took place at the intersection of Ferndale and Herndon Parkway. The man's dog was not harmed in the accident and was awaiting pick-up by his family at the Herndon Police Department as of Monday.
A police department release said they planned to have officers on the scene Tuesday, Nov. 21, beginning at 4:30 a.m. to pass out flyers to drivers and pedestrians in an effort to find those who may have information about the incident.
