Michael Morgan, Randolph-Macon Academy ’09, the son of John Morgan Jr. of Herndon, and Jennifer Morgan of Cleveland, N.C., has been selected to play for the Tuba Titans Marching Band (www.tubatitans.com) in the Macy’s 80th Anniversary Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Michael was nominated by his band director, Ed Richards of R-MA, and sent in a videotaped audition to compete for his spot. Approximately 300 players were chosen to participate, consisting solely of sousaphone players with percussion accompaniment. Michael and the other performers received the music to practice and memorize ahead of time. They will perform Wednesday at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which begins at 9 a.m., and ends at noon.
Michael was also recently promoted to the non-commissioned officer ranks at R-MA, receiving the position of cadet staff sergeant in the Air Force JROTC program. The students competed for promotions based on their grade point averages, discipline records, organized team participation, and a leadership assessment based on the cadets’ contributions to R-MA and their community.
Throughout November, Crossfield Elementary School is conducting a “Coat Drive” with Reston Interfaith. Every Wednesday, school community families and staff are encouraged to bring gently worn winter coats and accessories to the school for distribution to area families in need. The items will be donated to the Hunter Mill Winter Coat Closet. Items can be brought into the collection box in the school lobby. For more information contact Michelle Madigan at 202-215-7027.
