Choreography: Adding to Moves to ‘Big, The Musical’

If “Crossing the Line,” “Coffee Black,” and having “Fun” sound good, then “Big, the Musical” at Chantilly High School, is definitely the show for you! This jam-packed show is filled with great dance numbers, show stopping tunes, and most of all its fun for all ages!

Most people would think that choreographing a musical would be difficult, especially if you’re still in high school. But Shannon Moore and Chloe West seem to be able to not only juggle their school work and college applications, but also take on the task of choreographing a dance heavy musical, without missing a beat.

Shannon Moore, a senior at Chantilly, says “since I’ve been dancing for almost 11 years I feel pretty comfortable with the choreography. Mrs. K is also a big help; when Chloe and I get together to make up a dance, we spend most of the time laughing at each other then dancing. But when it comes down to it our imaginations and dance experience come together to make great choreography.”

Chloe West, also a senior at Chantilly, agrees that “Shannon and I make a great team, and it is way more fun to choreograph a show with someone else rather than by yourself. And when we are having fun choreographing, it makes the dance more fun, which with a show like ‘Big’ makes the audiences experience that much more fun!” Chloe thinks that, “if anyone has liked shows such as ‘Footloose,’ ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie,’ or even the movie ‘Big,’ they would definitely love Chantilly’s production of ‘Big, the Musical.’”

Shannon and Chloe both agree that, with a show such as Big the dance numbers are going to be visually appealing, and they are both very proud of what they have accomplished in such a short amount of time.

“One hard thing about choreographing a musical is the fact that not everyone can dance. Many people are really great singers, but they bear the cliché of having two left feet,” said West. Moore thinks “the challenges are what make choreographing so interesting.”

Whatever the case may be, Chantilly’s production of “Big” is sure to be a show stopping Musical!
