McLean’s Year in Theatre

2006-2007 school year will start the 51st year of theatre at McLean High School. The season is packed with classics and new works. The drama department started off the year with a Haunted House in the Black Box Theatre over the Homecoming and Halloween Weekend. It was called “Little Black Box of Horrors.” Vampires, werewolves, mummies, zombies and a rather large "man-eating plant greeted those brave enough to venture into the Black Box.

The Fall play is the Charles Dicken's classic holiday ghost story, “A Christmas Carol.” Scrooge and Tiny Tim will be joining the cast and crew of 60 in presenting this much-loved play.

Winter will bring many one act plays competitions. The first will be VHSL in January. Our second will be the popular Student-Directed One-Act Play Competition the first week of February. The students in the advanced theatre classes will direct these plays, many are student-written as well. Our final one-act adventure will be attending the National Performing Arts Festival at Walt Disney World. Students from the advanced theatre classes and technical theatre class will be going to this festival to perform, attend seminars and enjoy some behind the scenes at Disney World.

Spring will bring a “Tea Party with Alice in Wonderland” and the Cappies show. This year's show will be “The House of Blues Leaves.” The play will be performed the last week in April.
