In his 878 games as a National Hockey League defenseman, Bryan "Bugsy" Watson needed to have stamina and consistency.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, those virtues will be on display at Watson's King Street eatery, Bugsy's Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar — along with an insatiable hunger for thick crust pizza.
The "Super Jaws" Pizza Eating Contest at Bugsy's, 111 King Street, is scheduled for this Saturday, with a rain date on Nov. 5, from 3-5 p.m. The contest is open to anyone over the age of 16.
The winner will receive two tickets to the Redskins vs. Giants game on Saturday, Dec. 30, plus limousine transportation to and from the game.
Here's how it works: the contest will consist of six 15-minute heats, with 12 participants per heat. Winners will be determined by the total number of thick crust cheese of pepperoni pizza slices consumed in that time period — and the entire slice needs to be finished in order for it to count. In the event of a tie, there will be a 5-minute overtime; if that doesn't snap the tie, the game goes to a shootout (just kidding, hockey fans).
Entries for the event must be received no later than Thursday, Nov. 2, although contest officials said there may be on-site registration at the event. A signed release is required for all contestants, and contestants under the age of 18 must have a signature from a parent or guardian. Contestants will qualify in order of registration until all slots are filled. Contestants
not on site by 2:45 p.m. will be eliminated.
There is no charge to enter the contest, which will be held outside the Bugsy's Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar. Registration forms can be found at the restaurant and on the Web at www.bugsyspizza.com by clicking on the Bugsy's Sports Bar link.
