The yearbook at Robinson Secondary School, "Sentry," was named 2005 Yearbook Pacemaker Award finalist by the National Scholastic Press Association. This was one of 55 finalists from across the nation.

South County Secondary School Band Boosters present “An Evening of Jazz, Etc.” Tuesday, May 30 in the school cafeteria. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by a performance by the guitar ensemble, SCSS band performers and middle and high school jazz bands at 7:15 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the South County music program. The third grade girls in Brownie Troop 1735, in cooperation with Art for Humanity, are collecting used shoes to send to Honduras. All types of shoes are welcomed, with tennis shoes in children’s and youth sizes encouraged. Adult sizes 11 and larger not needed. Cleaned pairs of shoes can be tied together and deposited in the collection bin near the Halley Elementary main office from May 5-11. The National Merit Scholarship Program designated several Fairfax County Public Schools students as Merit Scholarship winners for 2006. Scholarships, which range from $500 to $10,000, are corporate-sponsored and are renewable for up to four years of study at the college of the student's choice. This year's scholars includes Joceline Vu of Fairfax Station, a student at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, who received a scholarship from Science Applications International Corporation for biochemistry.
“Snapshot” on Silverbrook Elementary School, produced by Amy Boynton, won a Telly Award for cable programming. A profile of staff members at the school, the segment was made for the news magazine show edtv. Many winning programs will be re-broadcast over the summer.
