Flint Hill Elementary celebrated its 50th birthday Friday and Saturday nights with a play, written by Flint Hill mom Mary Romagnoli, that reviewed the school's history decade by decade. "Dancin' Down the Decades" combined popular music of each era with a history of the school and the Town of Vienna, as recounted by "Carl," the tulip poplar tree that grows on the school's playground.
State Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites Davis (R-34) and Del. Steve Shannon (D-35) made an appearance at Friday's showing, where they read a resolution passed by the state legislature recounting the history of the school, including its construction to the tune of $332,000, its boundary changes, and its renovation and expansion, and mandating that the school be commemorated and congratulated and presented with oversized replicas of the resolution.
