<sh>McLean Police Issue Summer Security Alert
<bt>Fairfax County Police Officer Tom Black, of the Crime Prevention Unit of the McLean District Station, issued a security alert to local residents reminding them of basic ways to keep from becoming theft victims. Lock doors and windows whenever leaving home. Shut garage doors at night and lock all vehicles either on the street or driveway. There have been a number of recent burglaries where criminals have stolen items from garages at night when the door was left open. Criminals have also checked the door from the garage into the home and when found unlocked have actually entered the home to steal personal items readily accessible. The door from the garage to the home should be secured with a bolt lock. It is also recommend any windows in garages have curtains to prevent criminals from looking in for items of interest. No car in the garage indicates no one is home. For home security questions call the crime prevention office at 703-556-7750.
