Border Cafe is holding a fund-raiser June 22-23 for the Armel Family and Garbarino Family trust funds. (Vicky Armel and Mike Garbarino were the two police officers killed at the Sully District Station). To participate, diners at Border Cafe need to tell their server that they wish to do so, and a percentage of their total check will be contributed.

Patriot Harley-Davidson in Fairfax has started a fund-raiser to support the families of the Fairfax County officers who were shot on May 8 at Sully District Police Station. The owner of the dealership, Bob DeHaven, will match donations dollar for dollar. Patriot started the drive a few weeks ago, and will run it through June 30. Vpstart Crow Productions Inc. recently named local theatre veteran Christine Lange as its interim artistic director through the end of the 2006 season.

The Vpstart Crow Board of Directors will have the option of naming Lange as the permanent artistic director at its annual meeting in January 2007. Lange takes over the artistic reins from Vpstart Crow Managing Director Steve Cramer, who had been serving as the theatre's acting artistic director since November 2004.

A new Rotary Club is forming in Centreville. The club meets on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at the Border Cafe in Centreville. Rotary is a global network of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Leadership Fairfax Inc. (LFI) held a joint commencement ceremony for the Leadership Fairfax Signature Program Class of 2006 and the Emerging Leaders Institute Class of 2006 on June 8 at Westfields Marriott in Chantilly. The ceremony featured civic change expert Dr. Suzanne Morse as the keynote speaker.

Leadership Fairfax’s Signature Program Class of 2006 is the 19th class to complete the leadership program. The Signature Program is a comprehensive 10-month program with a curriculum built around community issues and skill development. The Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) Class of 2006 is the fourth class to complete the program. ELI is a nine-month program built around four pillars: skill building, mentoring, community service projects and community board service.

Ama Arkorful, a student at Westfield High School in Chantilly, is a winner of a 2006 Award of Achievement for academic excellence in accounting studies presented by The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Each year, the VSCPA recognizes top graduating accounting seniors from Virginia high schools, community colleges and 4-year universities statewide.

The students are selected by accounting faculty at their respective schools. Only one award is issued per school each year; thus making it a significant honor to be the one student selected by their faculty to be recognized amongst their peers.

The Virginia Society of CPAs is proud to honor Award of Achievement recipients for the dedication and promise they bring to the CPA profession. In addition, the VSCPA salutes the high schools, community colleges and 4-year universities across the state that participate in this special program and other educational initiatives of the VSCPA.
