<sh>Woman Killed
<bt>A Loudoun woman died Wednesday, June 7, after her vehicle collided with a tractor trailer shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Route 15 south of Lucketts, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Dr. Mary Kathryn Hammock, 68, of Middleburg, was traveling south on Route 15 in her pickup when she attempted to pass another southbound vehicle on a double solid yellow line. She then struck a northbound 2006 Freightliner tractor trailer nearly head-on just south of Spinks Ferry Road.
The victim was transported to the Cornwall Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the tractor trailer, Alejandro Rios Jr., 49, of New Jersey, was uninjured.
The crash closed Route 15 in both directions for almost four hours as HAZMAT crews were called to the scene due to a diesel fuel leak from one of the tractor trailer's fuel tanks.
This is the seventh traffic fatality on Loudoun's roadways this year. In 2005 there were a total of 20 traffic fatalities in the county.
