South Riding Store Robbed

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the armed robbery of a South Riding convenience store that occurred the evening of Tuesday, June 6.

According to the Sheriff's Office, at approximately 5:30 p.m., an unknown black man entered the Mart 11 located in the 43050 block of Pemberton Square wearing a cloth over his head and a bandanna covering his face. The man pulled out a gun and demanded money from the cashier.

The suspect is described as a thin man who is more than 6 feet tall.

Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kraig Troxell said they are confident they will be able to make an arrest in the case.

"In that area, at that time of day, there is a lot of traffic," he said. "There are a lot of people around."

Troxell said anyone who saw something out of the ordinary at that time should contact investigator R. Colantonio at 703-777-0475 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919.

On Sunday, June 4, there was an armed robbery in Ashburn, where two females were sitting in their car when they were robbed by a man and a woman. Troxell said the Sheriff's Office does not believe the two crimes were related.

"There is no information at this point to say that they were related," he said. "The robbery on Sunday appears to be a crime of opportunity."
