Garden Tour Raises $3,500

The saying, stop to smell the roses, was the theme a few weekends ago as about 150 people made their way through some of the best local gardens during the Reston Garden Tour.

But, the tour, sponsored by the Reston Garden Club and the Reston Association, which featured 12 Reston gardens for people to enjoy and get ideas, also raised $3,500 to support the construction of the Nature House.

“We really are pleased with the success of it,” said Pat Lenz, president of the Reston Garden Club, who also had her garden on the tour.

The money will be donated to the Friends of Reston, the lead organization raising money for the Nature House. “The garden tour was a big win-win for the Reston Garden Club, the Friends of Reston and the community as a whole,” said John Gasson of Sprint Nextel, president of the Friends of Reston.

Last Friday, Lenz, Gasson and a few representatives of RA gathered at one of the featured gardens on the tour to celebrate the success of the event. The check was presented to the Friends of Reston in the backyard of Chris and Gary Fossett’s home, which includes a professionally landscaped garden by Garen Ceccucci of Design Scapes, The Bird Feeder, Xavier Services and Thrive Plant Health Care Solutions, all Reston-based companies, also helped sponsor the event.
