Bicycling
C&O Canal Volunteer Bike Patrol
Volunteer organization that assists park rangers at C&O Canal National Historical Park while riding in pairs along the towpath. Members greet park visitors, provide them with information on park, alert staff to potential problems and relay visitor comments and concerns. In the past, Bike Patrol members have participated in searches for lost hikers, helped people locked out of their vehicles, and provided information to thousands of visitors interested in learning more about the park along the 184.5-mile towpath. Anyone with a love for cycling, the outdoors, the C&O Canal, and the well-being of the visitors is encouraged to apply. Minimum of 40 hours per year.

Maplewood is a charter member of the Capital Beltway League, Inc., a highly competitive tackle football league made up of several teams in and around Montgomery County, Md. The Maplewood football program supports 14 teams, including two instructional levels designed for players with no previous experience. They have an unlimited weight division for players 6-8th grade. This is their 46th year as an independent football program and they have never cut a child who wanted to play. Although they do play in a highly competitive league, it is divided into two levels so all players have an opportunity to compete.
