Fair Oaks Crash Kills Man

A 41-year-old Lake Ridge man was killed early Monday morning in the Fair Oaks area when, for some as yet unknown reason, he lost control of the truck he was driving on the Fairfax County Parkway. Pronounced dead at the scene was Robert D. McHenry of Marquis Place in eastern Prince William County.

Fairfax County police say he was traveling north on the parkway around 5:15 a.m. when his 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe drifted into the median. It then traveled a short distance and struck a traffic-light pole, and McHenry was ejected upon impact. Officers were investigating to try to determine whether speed or alcohol were factors in the fatality.

Man Robbed in Chantilly

Fairfax County police are looking for a man who robbed a Wendy's customer at knifepoint Tuesday while the customer was in the restaurant's parking lot. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at the Wendy's in the 13900 block of Lee Jackson Memorial Highway in Chantilly.

Police say an 18-year-old Herndon man was waiting for his order at the drive-through window when a man walked up to the passenger window of his car, asking for money. When the driver pulled into a parking spot with his food, the man again approached and asked for money.

The driver refused, but the man brandished a knife, grabbed some cash from inside the car and fled. Police say he walked behind the Wendy's and toward the Route 50/Metrotech Drive intersection before crossing Route 50.

The suspect is described as black, about 5 feet 6 inches and 180 pounds. He had a short afro and wore a black, sleeveless T-shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information about this incident or the suspect is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or police at 703-691-2131.

Grand Jury Indicts James

On May 3, Fairfax County police arrested Pamela H. James and charged her with credit-card theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving on a revoked or suspended license. Police said the victim was a wheelchair-bound woman with multiple sclerosis who'd hired James to be her live-in caretaker in Centreville's Willoughby's Ridge community.

According to police Det. James Reid, who was investigating a complaint from the woman, who told authorities someone had activated and used a credit card recently re-issued to her. Following her arrest, James appeared July 11 in General District Court.

At that time, the credit-card theft and driver's license charges were dropped, but the vehicle offense was sent to the grand jury. Then on Monday, July 17, the grand jury indicted James on this charge. She is slated to enter a plea, this coming Monday, July 24, in Circuit Court.

This new service will allow library patrons to use their own Wi-Fi enabled laptops to access the Internet, for an unlimited amount of time, from any public area of the library. They'll need charged batteries, though, since library power outlets may not always be available.

Those accessing the Internet wirelessly in the library and wanting to rent items from it will still need to sign up and use library computers for the printing. The library's Internet use policy will apply to both wireless and standard access.
