“USA,” by Paul Shyrre and John Dos Passos, will be at the American Century Theater and Gunston Theater Two from June 22-July 15. An ambitious stage version of the epic trilogy of novels by John Dos Passos that paint the portrait of the U.S. between 1900 and 1930. The play mixes historical figures (Isadora Duncan, Rudolph Valentino and the Wright Brothers) with fictional ones to explore America's exhilaration, contradictions and obsessions. Washington Shakespeare Company announces that Lee Mikeska Gardner will direct an open workshop of 09/11/XX by Ian Allen of Cherry Red Productions, which juxtaposes the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857 with the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks on Washington, DC and New York, from July 9-16.

The workshop, presented as part of our Arlington Dramatist Project, gives patrons an opportunity to witness the entire process of bringing a play to life on stage, from the first read through tech and into the run. The workshop includes four rehearsals and four pay-what-you-can performances. Ian Allen will attend the workshop on select dates. The public may purchase a pass to attend any or all of the rehearsals for $50, or purchase a ticket to any single rehearsal for $20. Current WSC subscribers and Theatrepass holders may attend any or all of the workshop for free. Workshop passes and rehearsal tickets are available at the WSC box office. Classika Theatre presents an original family production of "Galactika" from June 10 – July 16 on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. The production is a joint effort of Classika-Synetic Theatre artistic team and NASA scientists to offer an entertaining way to learn about galaxy, stars and astronomy, in general. The show is created according to the school curriculum in astronomy. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Production takes place at Classika Theatre located in the Village at Shirlington at 4041 S. 28th Street in Arlington. "Assassins," by Stephen Sondheim runs from May 30 – July 30. This 2004 Tony Award-winning show gives a captivating look at the lives and lunacy of nine infamous assassins, from John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald. “The Barber of Seville” will be at Lubber Run Ampitheatre July 7 – Aug. 7. The show is a 45-minute one-act version of Rossini’s masterpiece, suitable for the whole family.
