Amy Jordan, a Springfield resident, has been teaching at Garfield Elementary School for one year. A George Mason University graduate, Jordan invests herself in education, as a LEAD mentor and Great Beginnings coach. With her husband Roger and black lab Porter, Jordan also enjoys running at Lake Accotink. She is this week’s People Profile.

Family: Married to Roger Jordan for three years. Dog (black lab) Porter, 10 years old.
Education: Undergrad from University of Delaware, master's in literacy education from George Mason University.
Current job/primary occupation: Special education teacher at Garfield Elementary School.
Achievements: LEAD Mentor, Great Beginnings coach to beginning teachers.
Activities/interests/hobbies? Hiking, running, walking the dog, pottery.
Favorite local restaurant or place in the community? Running/walking at Lake Accotink.
What are your community concerns? What are some ideas you have on ways to improve your community? I would like to see more parks and, in particular, places to let dogs off leashes (dog parks). I would also like to see organized sports apart of the middle schools in our area.
What brought you here? I grew up in McLean and started teaching at Garfield Elementary School right after college and haven't left since. It is a great place to be!
What community "hidden treasure" do you think more people should know about? Farmer's markets, Green Spring Gardens, Karaoke hotspots.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you "grew up?" A teacher.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Teaching at Garfield and being a parent.
Personal goals? My goal in life is to enjoy it!
