Shelley Levine, an independent educational consultant in Potomac, recently participated in a college counselor mission to Israel. The goal of the mission was to introduce college counselors to the various Israeli institutions of higher learning as well as volunteer opportunities for post-high school students. Dr. Ron Manderscheid of Potomac has received the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Mental Health Administration. This award was presented at the Annual Summit of the College, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on March 16. He also received the 2006 Excellence in Public Service Award from the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare at its Annual National Meeting in Orlando, Fla. on April 10. The Excellence in Public Service Award is presented to administrators and public health leaders who are championing mental health and addiction issues, demonstrating knowledge, passion, and commitment to strengthening America’s mental health system. Dr. Manderscheid is Director of Mental Health and Substance Use Programs at Constella Group, LLC, with headquarters in Durham, N.C. Formerly, he was the Chief of mental health statistics and informatics at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Mental Health Services in Rockville.

Montgomery County Circuit Court hosted a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 16 for the first 10 graduates of the Adult Drug Court program. Montgomery County's program provides intensive reatment, supervision and comprehensive judicial monitoring to habitual offenders whose crimes are addiction-driven.
