Army National Guard Spec. Daniel O. Buchholz has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions and core values.
He is the son of Thomas Buchholz of Arlington.
Buchholz graduated in 1994 from H.B. Woodlawn High School, Arlington, and earned a bachelor's degree in 1998 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va.
Marine Corps Reserve Lance Cpl. Eric C. Nielsen, son of Barbara H. and Robert J. Nielsen of Arlington, recently reported for duty with Inspector and Instructor, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, Roanoke, Va.
Nielsen joined the Marine Corps Reserve in May 2004.
Marine Corps Pfc. Matthew K. Easley, brother of Martin K. Easley of Arlington, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., and was meritoriously promoted to his current rank. Easley is a 2001 graduate of Garfield High School in Woodbridge.
Marine Corps 1st Lt. Benjamin A. Schellman, son of Andrea H. and James M. Schellman of Arlington, recently reported for duty with Marine Aviation Training Support Group 53, Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor, Wash. Schellman is a 1999 graduate of Gonzaga College High School of Washington, D.C. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of Virginia, with a BS degree.
Army 2nd Lt. Colin L. Layne has graduated from the Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The four-month course is designed to instruct new lieutenants in leadership, tactical skills, and combat-related skills and tasks which concentrate on practical battlefield training. Layne is the son of Clyde and Celeste Layne of N. Oak St., Arlington. He earned a bachelor's degree in 2005 from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
Marine Corps Reserve Pvt. Laura Chavez, daughter of Gloria and Jose Chavez of Arlington, recently completed the Marine Corps Enlisted Warehouse Basic Course. Chavez is a 2005 graduate of Washington Lee High School and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in July 2005.
