Supporters of the Reston Relay For Life gathered Thursday, Jan. 19 to begin preparations to ensure a successful 13th campaign in the fight against cancer.
The Kick-off Celebration at South Lakes High School featured Relay team captains, community leaders and the Planning Committee working together to share ideas and fund-raising tips. This year's Relay will be May 20-21, at South Lakes High School with a circus theme.
“This event is a great opportunity to increase bonds throughout the community and unite in the fight against one of the most devastating diseases of our time,” said Kristina Baumler, Reston Relay co-chair. “Together, we can work to find a cure."
Last year's Reston Relay For Life raised more than $365,000 to help find a cure for cancer, and 106 Relay teams gathered to celebrate life, raise funds for cancer research and education, and recognize more than 100 Reston cancer survivors. The South Atlantic Division, which Reston is a member, ranked first in the nation in fund raising by collecting $67 million.
