The Loudoun County Planning Commission voted Teresa White Whitmore (Potomac), the commission's chairman. Whitmore served as vice chairman to Lawrence Beerman for the past two years.
"This is a great group to work with," said Whitmore. She said the commission is made up of people who enjoy their work and she is looking forward to the upcoming challenges.
In its first work session of the year, members of the staff briefed the Planning Commission on items scheduled to appear at the Jan. 23 public hearing. Three of the items discussed pertained to a suggested build out of East Gate 1, 2 and 3 properties. Together those properties would add 193 townhouses, 428 multiple family units, 161,548 square feet of retail space and 62,100 square feet of office space between Pleasant Valley and Poland Road south of Route 50.
The commission was also briefed on a proposal to add 117 townhouse units near the Pinebrook development. These and other items will be brought to a public hearing, to be held Jan. 23 ,at 6 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors' meeting room, 1 Harrison St., N.E., Leesburg.
This is Whitmore's second time to serve as chairman of the Planning Commission. Her first tenure was in the late 1990s. Robert Klancher (Broad Run), was elected as vice chairman.
