<sh>Shannon's Town Hall

<bt>Del. Steve Shannon (D-35) will hold a town hall meeting to hear from residents in advance of the General Assembly Session. Virginia Sec. of Transportation, Pierce Homer, will also be in attendance. The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. in the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., SE.

<sh>Fairfax County Alcohol Sting Yields Five Arrests

<bt>As part of their ongoing Safe December campaign, Fairfax County Police conducted an alcohol sting on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Fairfax County Police cadets entered several businesses in plain clothing and attempted to purchase alcohol. Officers charged clerks who sold alcoholic beverages to the cadets. Members of the McLean District Police Station's Neighborhood Patrol Unit and the Traffic Safety Services Unit conducted stings at 30 locations in the McLean, Falls Church and Vienna areas of Fairfax County. Five arrests were made at the following businesses: Rite Aid Pharmacy, 8416 Lee Highway, Merrifield, VA, 7-Eleven, 8110 Old Dominion Dr., McLean, VA, 7-Eleven, 1357 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, VA, 7-Eleven 7451 Patterson Rd., Falls Church, VA, and CVS Pharmacy, 1452 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, VA.

<sh>Safe December Squad Makes Arrests

<bt>The Fairfax County Police Safe December Squad has arrested more than 60 people for driving while intoxicated since Dec. 1. Officers have made more than 500 traffic stops, issued over 460 summonses and given 140 warnings. 60 motorists have been cited for reckless driving and 33 others were given tickets for driving on suspended licenses. Officers from the Safe December Squad will continue to make driving while intoxicated arrests throughout the season.

<sh>Man Arrested at Tysons Corner

<bt>Over $20,000 worth of stolen merchandise and two guns were recovered by the Fairfax County Police McLean CAT Team. On Monday, Dec. 26, at around 1:30 p.m., officers were told by employees at Tysons Corner Center that a man was attempting to return possible stolen items. The officers stopped the suspect, and during the investigation, a second suspect was discovered, and their car located. In the car, officers found stolen merchandise including women's apparel, sunglasses, purses, watches and shoes. Jason Crowder, 25, of Woodmark Avenue in Baltimore, Md., was charged with attempted grand larceny by false pretense, receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, two counts of possession of a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana. Gregory Toney, 23, of Rokeby Road in Baltimore, Md., was charged with attempted grand larceny by false pretense, receiving stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. Both men were taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

<sh>Pharmacy Robbed

<bt>A pharmacy was robbed of Oxycodone in the Merrifield area, according to a Fairfax County Police news release. On Monday, Dec. 19 around 10:45 a.m., a man walked up to the pharmacy counter at Eckerd Pharmacy at 8416 Lee Highway. He spoke to an employee, a 23-year-old Fairfax woman, implied he had a gun and demanded Oxycodone. The employee complied with the request, and the suspect left, said police.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 40s with medium-length, reddish-brown hair. He was about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He had a thick mustache and thick glasses. He was wearing a dark green puffy jacket, blue jeans and a bright blue tennis hat with Care Bears on it and rainbow lettering reading, "I love you."

<sh>Falls Church Woman Killed Near Tysons

<bt>On Friday, Dec. 23, a 41-year-old Falls Church area woman was killed in a car crash outside of Tysons Corner Center. At approximately 8 p.m., Delmi Vasquez attempted to run across the southbound lanes of Chain Bridge Rd. near International Dr. A 19-year-old Vienna area man, driving a 1994 Volkswagen Carrat was driving southbound and struck Vasquez. She died at the scene of the crash. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

<sh>Men's Softball Registration

<bt>Registration is underway for the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department's men's softball league. Games begin April 10 at Vienna's Southside Park. <sh>Vienna Theatre Company Presents 'Enchanted April'

<bt>The Vienna Theatre Company will present the romantic comedy "Enchanted April" at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., SE. Performances are scheduled Jan. 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $9 general admission and $8 for students and senior citizens (65 and older), available at the Community Center. <sh>Holiday Schedule

<bt>Vienna Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Trash will be picked up as usual that day for town residents on the Monday collection route.

<sh>Beautification Awards Announced

<bt>Vienna's Community Enhancement Commission recognizes town residents and businesses for their beautification projects. The latest "Beauty Spot" awards, for their continued maintenance of their grounds and landscaping went to: Charles and Betty Morris of 107 Ayr Hill Ave., NW; Park Street LLC, Magruder's at the Vienna Shopping Center and the Vienna Inn.
