Two women were seriously injured at Westfield Shoppingtown Montgomery after a woman started stabbing people — apparently at random — on a department store escalator.
Antoinette C. Starks, 38, was charged in May with three counts of attempted second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, and seven other charges, but is currently in a psychiatric facility where she has been deemed unfit to stand trial.
Starks stabbed a woman near the customer service counter in Nordstrom, then got on the escalator, stabbed a second woman, and began to chase a third woman, who escaped without injury.
An off-duty FBI agent drew his weapon and took Starks into custody without further incident.
The stabbing victims were Sarah Paseltiner, 25, of Bethesda and Jacqueline Greismann, 48, of Potomac. Greismann is an upper school librarian at the Bullis School in Potomac.
Both women survived their injuries.
