A former Park View High School custodian saw charges for taking indecent liberties with a minor by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship against him dismissed Wednesday, Dec. 6.
Maurice Edward Chase, 29, was arrested last month for having inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old female Park View High School student, said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kraig Troxell.
Commonwealth Attorney James Plowman said a judge determined Chase was not in a supervisory role as a custodian.
The Sheriff's Office and Commonwealth Attorney Office are still reviewing the case.
"Other charges could be brought against him," Troxell said.
"We are considering all of our options at this point," Plowman said. "There are no issues of double jeopardy since a preliminary hearing is not considered a trial on the merits."
CHASE WORKED for Loudoun County Public Schools since July 27 and only worked at Park View High School. Wayde Byard, spokesperson for the school system, said every school-system employee goes through an FBI fingerprint check and a state police criminal background check. Child Protective Service also does a background check to see if there have been any complaints filed against a potential employee involving minors.
"Background checks are required," Byard said. "Mr. Chase went through a background check."
Some misdemeanors will not disqualify you from obtaining a job, he added, but any complaint involving a minor will disqualify you from getting a job.
