Beginning Dec. 1, and continuing throughout the holiday season, five Northern Virginia Moe’s Southwestern Grill locations will serve as drop sites and collection points for Any Soldier Inc., which sends items to military personnel overseas. Individuals wishing to participate can bring loose items into Moe’s where community teams will assemble to create care packages. Moe’s will cover the cost of all supplies plus shipping costs for distribution to service members in war zones. Blue Ridge Meats of Sterling donated 2,000 pounds of deer meat to the LINK Thanksgiving Program on Nov. 18, which assisted 375 families. The meat was cut into steaks, roasts, ribs, chops, tenderloins and venison burger. Blue Ridge Meats will again donate 1,500 pounds of venison to support the LINK Christmas Program on Dec. 16 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic in Sterling and Trinity Presbyterian in Herndon. More than 400 families, comprising 2,000 people, are expected to register for this event.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) has accepted five new companies into the Accessing International Markets (AIM) export development program. The program, launched by VEDP in December, 2005, helps Virginia companies pursue international leads in a new market overseas and realize the benefits of exporting. Based on a competitive quarterly application process, 20 companies will be accepted into the AIM program each year. One of the selected companies is Speedtech in Sterling.
