Chaykowski Dies of Leukemia

Obituary

Norman R. Chaykowski, longtime Potomac resident, died in Seattle, Wash. on August 11 at the age of 63 after a five-month battle with leukemia. Norm grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Brooklyn High School. He began his college career at Trinidad State College on a football scholarship and later attended Southern Illinois University. Norm was proud to have served in the Navy during the Vietnam conflict. During his 42-year career with IBM, Norm held a wide variety of positions, both international and domestic. His expertise in customer relations management was recognized throughout the industry. Norm was especially proud of the lasting relationships and friendships he formed over these years.

Norm enjoyed music, spending time by the water, cooking, model trains, physical fitness and the company of his friends. Above all he was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife Sheila, daughters Catherine and Christine, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Mass of the Resurrection in celebration of Norm’s life will take place on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church located at 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac. Internment will follow at St. Gabriel’s cemetery on Alloway Drive in Potomac. The family will receive friends in the church lobby from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
