Sterling Foundation Plans Boulevard Cleanup

The Sterling Foundation invites Loudoun residents to pick up trash on Sterling Boulevard, Saturday.

Foundation members will greet volunteers at the Park View Recycling Center, 400 West Laurel Ave. in Sterling, at 9 a.m. Volunteers will receive orange bags, safety vests, instructions and directions. Bring gloves.

The Sterling Foundation holds Sterling Boulevard Cleanup events every three months, as part of the Adopt-a-Highway program.

Board chairman Ken Chroninger said he expects a good turnout.

"Last year at this time, we collected 40 bags of trash," Chroninger said. "We’ve found some odd things."

Last year, a volunteer found a vacuum on Sterling Boulevard. Common items include bottles, can, cigarette packs and old signs.

As long as the sun is shining, Chroninger expects a good turnout. If it rains, the event will be rescheduled for Saturday, April 29.

"Sometimes we get a dozen people, sometimes there are just a handful of us out there," he said. "It’s a good way to celebrate Earth Day."
