Truck Driver Hits School Bus

A Sterling man driving a trash truck struck a Loudoun County school bus at 8 a.m., Tuesday, April 4.

Jose Lima, 42, failed to properly yield at a stop sign at the intersection of Donegal Drive and Bennett Street in South Riding, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kraig Troxell said.

The trash truck hit the school bus headed south on Donegal Drive. The school bus, with one 14-year-old passenger on it, was pushed into a parked car.

"One witness said the trash truck driver went through the stop sign. Another witness said he barely stopped," Troxell said.

No one was injured.

Lima, who was driving a Republic Services of Virginia trash truck, was charged with failure to yield the right of way, no pre-trip inspection and being unqualified to operate a commercial vehicle.

A representative from Republic Services of Virginia was unavailable for comment.
