Banner College, formerly The Chubb Institute of Arlington, will hold its official grand-opening ceremonies on Wednesday, April 5. Activities will include:
* Student Career Expo — 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
* Current students showcase their career field and answer questions from prospective students and parents.
* VIP Reception — 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
* Presentations from campus representatives, city officials, campus recruiters and alumni - 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
* Ribbon-cutting ceremony and opportunities for one-on-one interviews — 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Banner College - Arlington Campus is located at 2300 Wilson Blvd., Suite 600, Arlington.
Representatives from the South African Embassy visited Washington-Lee High School on Monday, March 13. Derek Moyo spoke about the political and social histories of South Africa (specifically during the Apartheid era), the current political and social climate, and possible future trajectories of South Africa.
On Feb. 3, some 100 Arlington Public Schools preschoolers visited the dentist for the first time as part of Dental Day. The students are enrolled in Arlington's Virginia Preschool Initiative classes. They traveled from their schools to the Northern Virginia School of Dental Hygiene at the Northern Virginia Community College medical campus. Volunteers this year provided cleanings, screenings, sealants and dental treatment.
Sara Remedios, the daughter of Kathleen and Antonio Remedios of Arlington, was named to the dean's List for the fall 2005 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Remedios is a graduate of Washington Lee High School in Arlington. She is enrolled in the university's College of Arts and Sciences.
