<lst>Kathryn V. Van Syckle of Great Falls graduated from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Van Syckle is the daughter of Guy W. Van Syckle Jr. and Karen K. Keegan. She majored in studio art and minored in English.
Cadet Randall Taylor Carroll, son of Randy and Ellen Carroll of Great Falls, was named to the dean's list at the U.S. Military Academy. To qualify for the dean's list, a cadet must maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Carroll graduated from Langley High School in 2003. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2007 and be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
<lst>Byron Hughey of McLean won an Alumni Endowed Scholarship at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The scholarship, worth $6,000, is awarded to students on the basis of their academic record, special talent in music, dance, theater or art, or demonstrated leadership service in school, community or religious organizations. Hughey is the son of Chat and Julie Hughey of McLean and is a 2005 graduate of Langley High School.
Malini Sud from McLean has been accepted into the University of Reading Program, provided by Randolph-Macon Woman's College. Sud, a junior at Randolph-Macon, will spend her junior year studying at the University of Reading in Reading, England. Students leave for the United Kingdom in September. Sud is the daughter of Ved Sud.
Julie Alexandra Wilson of McLean received a President's Award to attend the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. President's Award scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership in both the classroom and their campus communities. They range up to $6,000 per year and are renewable for four years. Julie is the daughter of Bill and Lisel Wilson. She is a graduate of Langley High School.
Shin Fujiyama of Falls Church, a 2001 graduate of McLean High School, has been selected to receive the Mary Siegrist Hinz Leadership Award for the 2005-06 academic year at the University of Mary Washington. The $13,700 scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated high academic achievement, citizenship, athletic excellence and a personal commitment to physical fitness. He is the son of Yuichiro and Aoi Fujiyama of Falls Church.
Christopher Howell Miller of McLean received the Scholar Athelete Award and the Emmett H. Hoy Jr. Citizenship Award. He graduated cum laude from St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School in Alexandria and will attend Harvard College.
Dennis Casey of McLean will attend Fordham University as a member of the College of Business Administration.
