<bt>Susie M. Thornett, 90, died Friday, Sept. 3 at Wesley Long Nursing Center in Greensboro, N.C.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lovettsville, Va.
Mrs. Thornett was a graduate of the Sibley Nursing School and worked with newborns but elected to stay home and raise her four children. She continued her nursing career after her children were grown. She loved McLean, where her children were raised, and even after moving to North Carolina, spent many hours on the road to return to visit friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Howard, and her two brothers, Wilbur and Ellsworth.
Surviving are four children, Donald Thornett and wife Joyce of Fairfax, Kathryn Holder and husband Joe, and Mary Maness — all of Greensboro — and Sarah Thornett of Liberty; 10 grandchildren, Julie Sanders and husband Rob, Eric Thornett, Amy Arnott and husband Jay, Donnie Maness and wife Loni, Chris Maness, Brian Maness and wife Natalie, Jeff, Matt, Michael and Patrick Holder; five great-grandchildren, Abigail and Mikayla Sanders, Kaitlin, Kendall and Carly Maness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross, 1591 Yanceyville St., Greensboro, NC 27405, or the Salvation Army, 1311 S. Eugene St., Greensboro, NC 27406, and designated for the Katrina Hurricane Relief Fund.
Local arrangements are being handled by Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel; in Virginia, Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg.
