When students return to Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) School in Vienna this year they will find a freshly painted building on a campus that has completed an extensive renovation. The challenges of construction will be replaced by a new challenge. It is the "Accelerated Reader" program. The students can choose a book at their level from over 1,000 titles in the library and then take a computer-based test. The Accelerated Reader program is just one of several computer-based programs planned for the school. With new computer technology in all the classrooms, 120 new laptop computers for classroom use, plus a newly constructed computer room with 30 flat screen PCs, and a new library equipped with 15 computers, the students are set to meet the challenge.
The students can participate in other activities in OLGC's new extra-curricular activity program. Sarah Schmitt, OLGC's assistant principal, is excited about offering these opportunities. Students will be able play sports in the gym, work on computers in the library and access to the music room for students to practice their instruments.
