Show Must Go On

Herndon residents did not let the Saturday morning rain stop them from lining Elden Street to watch this year's Herndon High School Homecoming parade.

Showcasing everything from Boy and Girl Scout Troops and Herndon dogs to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue department and local businesses, this year's parade had it all.

But, the highlight of the rainy hour-and-a-half event were the floats for Herndon High School's four classes. This year's theme was "film" and each class showcased different ideas, hoping to win first place. The freshman class highlighted a scene out of the Audrey Hepburn movie "Breakfast At Tiffany's," while the sophomores took on a country-western theme with their "The Good, The Bad and The Sophomores." Hoping to scare parade-goers, the junior class highlighted some of Hollywood's scary movies with its graveyard and "Bates Motel" out of Alfred Hitchock's "Psycho." Trying to make the gray morning a little lighter, this year's senior class created a Walt Disney-themed float, complete with a castle and costumes of some of his most famous characters. Herndon's sophomore class broke the Class of 2007's winning streak this year by taking first place in the Class Float category. The Class of 2007, this year's juniors, took second.
