Residents north of the hike and bike trail participating in the fall clean up should have items available for pick up during the week of Oct. 17. Residents south of the trail should have them available the following week, Oct. 24.
Items will be picked up curbside on the regular trash pick up day. The items should not be placed on the sidewalk, pavement or in such a way as to obstruct drainage. Residents need to ensure that all materials are clearly visible from the road and unobstructed by vehicles or other large items. It is important to remember that if a regular pick-up day falls at the end of one of the clean-up weeks specified above, the materials may not be picked up until the following week if there is a particularly high volume of items to be picked up throughout the town. All items must be placed at curbside by 7 a.m. of the regular pick up day during the scheduled clean-up week. Materials placed for pick up at any other time will not be collected. It is important to note that all items must be separated as indicated below or they will not be collected until this has been done.
* Furniture and wood should be stacked together, any boards must be cut to four-feet in length and stacked neatly.
* All metal should be stacked in one pile separated from wood and furniture, including stoves. Refrigerators must have the doors removed and be stacked with the metal items in a neat manner and this includes vehicle wheels without tires on them.
* All metal door frames with glass still intact must have a large enough cardboard box taped to the glass so that it does not shatter while being picked up.
* Tires should be stacked separately from other items.
* Household trash can be stacked next to the wood and furniture.
* Swing sets and basketball hoops should be broken down into smaller pieces.
* Brush and yard waste should be set out on the regular trash day, tied in bundles or placed inside the proper yard-waste paper bags. Place all recyclable materials curbside by 7 a.m. on Wednesday, the regular scheduled pick up day.
Unacceptable items include combustible materials, paint or paint thinners, motor oil, dangerous chemicals, infectious materials, dead animals, earth or sod.
