Murder Rocks Quiet Clifton

Victim, suspect, both lived in the same house.

One man is dead and another is behind bars following a fatal shooting, Sunday evening, in the Clifton Hunt community.

THE VIOLENT act was in stark contrast to this peaceful, leafy neighborhood of manicured lawns and elegant homes. But what was even more shocking is that the suspect allegedly killed the father of his sister's children — and they all lived there together under the same roof.

Killed was Derrick Nathaniel Meade, 25, of Clifton Hunt Drive. Charged with his murder is David Marsden Logan, 35, of the same address. And Fairfax County police are calling it both a "domestic-related dispute" and a homicide.

They've already recovered the suspected murder weapon and reportedly have an eyewitness to the crime — the suspect's sister.

In a May 16 affidavit for a search warrant to look for the gun in Logan's car, Det. Christopher Flanagan presented details of the investigation into the murder. He wrote that on Sunday, May 15, around 6:23 p.m., police received a report of a person shot at the home of Percy Logan on Clifton Hunt Drive, outside the Town of Clifton.

When officers M.S. Lamper and J.T. Brown responded to the scene, they encountered a female waving her arms at the bottom of the driveway to the home. The officers also found a man — identified as Meade — lying face up on the driveway.

"[He] was bleeding and several other people were attempting lifesaving measures," wrote Flanagan. "The female who previously alerted the officers identified herself as a resident of [that address] and a witness to [Meade's] injury."

Then, wrote the detective, "The witness told the officers the injured person [Meade] was shot by her brother, David M. Logan, who lived at the house. It was later learned that [Meade] was the father to the witness' children and also a resident of the same house."

After Lamper tried additional lifesaving measures, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arrived at the home and, wrote Flanagan, "determined preliminarily that the victim had a gunshot wound to the back. Mr. Meade eventually died of his injuries before he could be transported to the hospital."

POLICE SAY Meade was arguing with a female resident in the driveway when the suspect approached and shot him. According to the detective, "Preliminary investigation revealed that Logan had in his possession a silver-colored handgun when he shot at [Meade]."

Flanagan wrote that Logan fled the residence in a brown 1987 Lincoln four-door vehicle that was registered to him. And within 90 minutes of the tragedy, they found him inside that car in the parking lot of the Centreville Multiplex Cinemas in Centre Ridge.

Police took him into custody and searched him incident to his arrest. "Second Lt. Fred Quiles learned from Logan that the handgun was still in the car," wrote the detective. "Several bullets were found in Logan's pocket when he was arrested."

Police charged Logan with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He's being held without bond in the Adult Detention Center and has a June 14 court date. The search warrant for his car was executed May 16 at 2 p.m., and police seized a silver, Llama .9 mm semi-automatic gun.

Tuesday afternoon, Logan's father declined to comment. Said Percy Logan: "The family's going through a lot, and I don't want to talk about it."
