The Jewish Learning Institute offers an eight-week course this spring titled, "The Messiah Mystery; Toward a Perfect World," which will focus on one of Judaism's least understood — yet most central — principles of faith. Members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax are building an Iraq War Memorial Cairn during outdoor services on Sunday, May 15, at 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., at the church, 2709 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton. The UUCF Cairn and a nearby sign will depict both Iraq civilian dead and U.S. military dead. Richard Nugent, senior interim minister, will officiate as congregants place the stones on the Cairn while Tom Finnell, a renowned bagpiper, plays nearby. Participants will include family members of women and men serving in Iraq along with long-time veterans.
The Asaph Dance Ensemble performs its Spring Concert on Friday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m., at McLean Bible Church, 8925 Leesburg Pike. The program includes two movements from Respighi’s "Ancient Airs and Dances," "A Cry in Ramah" and "Dying Swan." This season’s performances also include the premiere of "In Search of the Garden," choreographed to music by Philip Glass.
