June Yard of the Month
A single family home and a townhouse have been selected as June Yard of the Month winners.
Guy and Ciss Masters located at 1059 Jeff Ryan Drive were the single family Yard of the Month winners. The Masters have lived there for 21 years and, according to Ciss Masters, this has allowed for a lot of experimentation. She has moved plants over the years to find the right microclimate for them to thrive. The yard features several flower beds and flowering shrubs and trees. There are also several very special heritage plants, including irises from the gardens of both of the Masters' mothers.
Alan Olson located at 504 Dakota Drive was selected as the townhouse winner. Olson grew up in the south with a quarter of an acre or more of yard. He said he did not transition well when purchasing a townhouse with such a small area for a lawn or gardening. Olson has succeeded in turning the space into a beautiful area full of color.
The winners of Yard of the Month each receive a $100 gift certificate from Meadows Farms and a unique green thumb sign to display in their yard.
Residents are encouraged to drive by these yards to see the efforts of the owners to create and maintain outstanding yards and make our community a beautiful place.
Nominations for the final round of competition will be accepted until September 15. Yards that were previously nominated but were not selected as the Yard of the Month can be nominated again.
