<lst>Jose M. Silva, AIA, a senior architect with more than 20 years of project management and design experience throughout the U.S., has been promoted to principal at McLean-based Cannon Design. Silva has served as a design executive supporting Cannon’s mid-Atlantic regional operations since 2000.

1st Service Bank Board of Directors recently elected Carl R. Varblow to serve as the new chairman of the board. Varblow, a former chief financial officer, director and board chairman of Veda International and former director of Riggs National Bank of Virginia, is one of the founding shareholders of 1st Service Bank and has served on the Board since the bank commenced operation in January 2001.

The IDI Group Companies of Arlington have announced the promotion of five IDI staff members to vice presidents. Virginia residents Carlos Cecchi of Alexandria, Enrico Cecchi of McLean, Patrick J. Rhodes Jr. of Middleburg and Bruce Rieder of Arlington, as well as Jolene Zangardi of Olney, Md., have all been named vice presidents.

Enrico C. Cecchi of McLean joined IDI in 1998 as assistant vice president and counsel. He collaborates with the chief financial officer in matters related to project financing, oversees contractual and in-house legal matters, serves as liaison with outside counsel and is responsible for various administrative corporate functions. Prior to joining IDI, he was an associate at the law firm of Hazel & Thomas, P.C., specializing in real estate and corporate law.

Arrowhead Global Solutions, based in McLean, was named by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce as one of the "Fantastic Fifty" fastest-growing companies in the state. Winning companies were saluted at an awards banquet at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly on April 28. Arrowhead was ranked 10th.

Davis Carter Scott, an exterior/interior architecture and masterplanning firm based in Tysons Corner, is expanding its current office and also acquiring an office in D.C. in July.

Frank W. Moore, at the McLean office of Northrop Grumman, has been named director of communications for the company's $5.2 billion Information Technology sector. Moore, 38, joined the company in 1999 and most recently served as corporate director of media relations. He will now oversee all communications and branding activities with target audiences including customers, partners, employees, members of the media and industry analysts. He will plan and implement media and advertising programs and will also manage executive and employee communications.

The Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce and Gannett Co. Inc. agreed to a multi-year sponsorship April 23, making Gannett the lead corporate sponsor in the Chamber's distinguished "Chairman's Circle." Gannett will receive top billing at all Chamber events and Gannett executives hope that the move inspires other corporations to support local business as well.

The Great Falls Business & Professional Association hosted C. Russell Rowzie of Trimark Corporation, a commerical real estate firm in Falls Church, at their May meeting at Riverbend Country Club.

Robert L. Olcott, head of the Olcott Consulting Group of Wachovia Securities in McLean, has been named one of the industry's "Outstanding Brokers" by Registered Rep magazine. Olcott's award was announced in the publication's May 2005 edition.

Northrop Grumman Corporation has named Michele Toth vice president of human resources and administration for the company's Information Technology sector, effective June 1. Northrop Grumann Information Technology is headquartered in McLean.

Alice Shaffer earned an all-expense paid trip to the Big Yellow Box by Crayola Leadership Seminar held in Dallas from May 19-22. Shaffer was one of 23 consultants who received the trip for achieving "team leader" status in the Big Yellow Box direct selling organization, a new venture launched by Crayola that offers family crafting activities sold through in-home parties.

East West Mortgage, the nation's seventh-largest mortgage broker, is expanding its U.S. headquarters in Tysons Corner, as well as its Silver Spring, Md. and Jersey City, N.J., locations. The company's Internet and Hispanic divisions are growing steadily and require more staff and office space. East West Mortgage is acquiring another 13,000 square feet in Tysons Corner, an additional 4,000 at its Silver Spring location and another 3,500 at its New Jersey office. The company plans to hire 120 more employees for these locations. East West Mortgage has grown to become the leading mortgage provider to the Washington, D.C. area's Hispanic community.

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Lee Karbowski has received the 2005 Human Resources (HR) Leadership Award in ethics for her role in developing, maintaining and strengthening the ethical values of the company. As director of workplace relations and diversity for Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector, Karbowski has significantly expanded the sector's ethics program over the last 25 years. She was recognized for her commitment to continuous improvement in educating employees on appropriate business conduct and for instituting a corporate-led, toll-free ethics hotline to answer employee inquiries and investige allegations for the sector. Northrop Grumman Information Technology is headquartered in McLean.
