An original musical drama, "The War Between the States," will be presented at Sunrise Valley Elementary Wednesday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. Sixth-grade students have been investigating the Civil War, and the entire class has collaborated to produce the show. They have created characters based on historical facts and used drama, music, and creative movement to retell the causes and results of the Civil War. The performance will include original dialogue as well as music popular during the war. Civil War living historians and teaching artist Rachel King have contributed to the students’ production, which is underwritten by grants from the Washington Post Grants in Education, the Fairfax General Music Educators Association, and the Horace Mann Foundation. Contact principal Beth English at 703-715-3800 or elizabeth.english@fcps.edu or event liaison Kara Lucas at kara.sopkolucas@fcps.edu.
