Police Charge Teens with Alcohol Possession

In two, separate incidents last week, Fairfax County police charged five 17-year-old boys from Centreville and Clifton with illegal possession of alcohol. All received summonses and were released to their parents.

The first incident occurred at a Fairfax Station home where police found teenagers in possession of alcohol at a party. Last Friday, June 10, around 11 p.m., officers were called to a house in the 10500 block of Canterberry Road for a report of dozens of teen-agers with alcohol. As a result, they charged a Clifton boy with illegal possession of alcohol.

In addition, police charged Andrew Dodson, 19, of 11821 Clara Way in Fairfax Station, with obstruction of justice. According to police, the 17-year-old girl who lives at the Canterberry Road address had hosted the party while her parents were out of town. She was released to a responsible adult, and other parents were called to pick up their children.

The second incident happened Saturday, June 11, around 8:30 p.m. Police responded to Bull Run Creek at 7110 Centreville Road in Centreville to investigate a report of intoxicated juveniles. There, an officer found four teens in possession of alcohol near the water's edge. Police say that two 17-year-old Clifton boys were taken by boat to an ambulance because they were unable to walk.

They were then taken to Inova Reston hospital and treated. They were also issued summonses for illegal possession of alcohol and released to their parents. The remaining two 17-year-old Clifton and Centreville boys were charged with the same offense and also released into their parents' custody.

In response to feedback from students about what can be done to prevent teen-age driving fatalities, the Fairfax County Police Traffic Division has established a special telephone line. By calling 703-246-2333, people may leave anonymous messages about events where underage drinking is expected to occur. The phone number will be checked daily by traffic-division staff.
