Relay Good Times for Potomac Area Swim League

The Potomac Area Swim League’s annual summer Relay Carnival brought swimmers together for three hours of friendly races and a lot of high-energy cheering July 20 at Country Glen Club on Glen Road.

The Potomac Area Swim league consists of "B" team swimmers from Potomac Swim and Tennis, Fallsmead, Potomac Glen, Country Glen, Potomac Woods and River Falls.

Parents barbecued, teammates cheered, and swimmers and siblings took breaks to chat and play Frisbee on the grassy area beside the pool.

Funny hats, T-shirts, and Hawaiian prints were standard attire at the annual festival for the league, which gives newer swimmers a chance to compete. River Falls coach Greg York, wearing a lei, stood on the Country Glen diving board and led his team in halftime cheers.

Many of the teams' experienced "A" team swimmers helped out as coaches, timers, and of course cheerleaders for their teammates.

The meet got a late start at about 6:40 p.m. and continued until past dark, ending with coaches’ and parents’ relays.
