Jimmy's Offers Texas Hold 'Em

Jimmy's Old Town Tavern and World Tavern Poker presents Texas Hold 'Em! Ten Weeks of Poker Tournaments with two tournaments each night of play.

Participants will be competing for prizes, as well as for ranked positions through WorldTavernPoker.com. Registration is free.

Those ranked will move on to Jimmy's Texas Hold 'Em Championship Tournament as well as the World Tavern Poker's regional and national championships.

All skill levels are welcome. The Summer Texas Hold 'Em season starts July 7, with two tournaments played every Sunday, at 7 and 10 p.m., after that until the championships Sept. 8. Jimmy's Annual Summer Golf Tourney

July Chamber Events

New/prospective member orientation — Chamber 101 — will be held Wednesday, July 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the ITT Technical Institute in Chantilly.

A monthly seminar, the event is a primer for businesses in the greater Dulles area to learn how to use the Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce events and programs effectively. The event includes lunch and networking with 30 to 40 other business representatives — bring business cards. The event is free, but preregister with Ellen Kaminsky, membership director, at 571-323-5302 or by e-mail at membership@herndondulleschamber.org. ITT Tech is located at 14420 Albermarle Point Place, Suite 100 in Chantilly.

* International business networking night is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Reston Sheraton, 11810 Sunrise Valley Drive.

An annual international-themed event, the evening is presented as a program of the Global Marketing Committee. The group is comprised of members from the Herndon and Reston chambers of commerce. The event is open to all, and draws hundreds of people from throughout the region, including embassy representatives and members of international business associations.

Abduction Suspect Wanted

The Herndon Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying and locating the subject in an attempted abduction case.

On June 25, the Herndon Police responded to the 900 block of Barton Oaks Place for a reported abduction, according to police reports. The victim reported a black male of Hispanic origin had approached her and attempted to begin a conversation with the girl, according to reports. He then grabbed her arm and pulled her into a parking lot, according to police. She was able to pull away at which time he fled the scene on a bicycle. The subject is described as a black, Hispanic, male, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches, 140 to 150 pounds, according to the report. He was last seen wearing a white short sleeve shirt with blue jeans and left the area on a black mountain bike. The Herndon Police are asking anyone with further information to call Detective Colorado at 703-435-6846.

Youth Nights at HCC

Escape the boring days of summer at the Herndon Community Center. Youth Nights will be held every Thursday night from 8 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 11. There will be open gym, ping pong, wallyball, PG movies, open swim time and snacks. Call the Herndon Community Center at 703-435-6868 or register on-line at www.herndon-va.gov. Ages 10-15 only. White Water Rafting

Come join the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday, July 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. for white water rafting on the James River in Virginia.

No experience is necessary and beginners are welcome. This trip is open to all, but children must be at least four feet tall. The $80 admission fee includes rafting equipment — helmet, life preserver — transportation, escort, river guide and lunch on the river. The bus will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the Herndon Community Center. Ages 12 and older are free. Contact the Herndon Community Center at 703-435-6868 or register on-line at www.herndon-va.gov.

Kids' Night Out

Need a date night? Enjoy a romantic evening with your spouse while your children enjoy a night of fun during Kids' Night Out on Friday, July 22 from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be big screen TV with PG/G movies, gym games, board games and much more. Kids' Night Out offers a safe environment for your child and a peaceful night for you. Children will be supervised at all times. Snack and dinner will be served. Red Cross Summer Program

The American Red Cross is holding a week long day camp for students in 7th, 8th and 9th grades.

The camp, called SPARC! — Summer Program at the American Red Cross, offers an introduction to the American Red Cross. Students will receive first aid certification, take introduction to disaster and learn how the Red Cross serves the community through service and volunteering.

This year SPARC! is being held at the Herndon Office on July 18 to 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The deadline for applications is July 8. Please contact Melissa Knapp at 703-805-2379 or knappme@redcrossnca.org for an application or information.

Frying Pan Park Farmer's Market

Frying Pan Park offers a mini-farmer's market each Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Open through October, the market offers farm fresh produce such as fresh fruit, baked goods, garden grown vegetables and an array of potted plants and herbs.

Venders include Reid's Orchards from Adams County, Pa., Garner Produce from east of Fredericksburg, Becky's Pastries from Sterling and Lynne Wright of Blue Moon Herbs in Leesburg.

Lunch Time Concerts

Merchants at Worldgate Center will host a lunch time summer concert series starting the first Tuesday of July, August and September.

Scheduled to run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. rain or shine, the event is free and will host Island Sounds July 5, Latin Jazz Aug. 2 and Classic Jazz Sept. 6.

Residents are invited to bring a lawn chair, a blanket or take a seat at one of the many outside eating areas. Located at the corner of Elden Street and Worldgate drive plenty of free parking is available in the Worldgate Center garage.

Gas Line Relocation

Gas line relocation in advance of an upcoming Town project will require the closure of Monroe Street, from Park Avenue to Pine Street, until approximately the end of July. The closure will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Only local traffic will be allowed on the affected portion of Monroe Street. Detours will be designated. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays. Parking on Pine Street will be affected for a short time as well.
