The Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing July 11, starting at 7:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers. The commission is set to review various applications including one for the creation of a formal day-labor site to be created in town. Additional items on the agenda include an application for an infant care and after-school program to be established at Iglesia Dios Pentecostal El Calvario; a site plan application for the parking of vehicles for sale at the corner of Center and Elden streets; two applications for the Fortnightly II rezoning, which would add 21 townhouses and 48 condominium units where the Park Avenue Apartments are currently located; an application to change the zoning classification of the old Herndon lumberyard site to allow Stanley Martin Companies to build 19 single-family homes and 57 townhousess; an application to allow temporary classroom trailers at Herndon Elementary School; and the revision of the zoning ordinance text amendment for Articles I, II and V of the town code.

The council is set to hear a House Joint Resolution commending Vice Mayor Darryl Smith, by Sen. Janet Howell (D-32), Sen. William Mims (R-33) and Del. Tom Rust (R-86). Another presentation of a Senate Joint Resolution will commend Mukit Hossain, Loudoun County resident, by Sen. Janet Howell (D-32) and Del. Tom Rust (R-86). The council will also offer a resolution in official recognition of the 22nd annual National Night Out, set for Aug. 2.
The council will hear public comment on three items related to the Sunset Business Park, although the applicant has asked the council to defer the item until its Aug. 9 hearing. Council will hear additional comment on 17 items. Highlights include an ordinance grating a 15-year cable franchise to Verizon, a site plan for Amphora Retail and Commerce Center, and a conditional-use permit for Commerce Bank.
