A Centreville man with an apparent interest in school supplies and cowboys is facing a possible five years in prison after being charged with burglarizing London Towne Elementary. He is David F. Kuntz, 20, of Pickwick Road.
Fairfax County police rushed to the school Monday, around 2:30 a.m., in response to an alarm and discovered one of the modular buildings (trailers) to the rear of the school had been broken into. The police helicopter and a K-9 unit also responded, and patrol officers caught Kuntz — who they believe was the burglar — near the school.
"[He] took some office materials, specifically some crayons and markers," said police spokesman Bud Walker. "And he also took a cowboy hat."
London Towne Principal Andy Camarda said it appears that this was "a random act of vandalism with no direct link to the school. And while it's sad to see our beautiful building vandalized, the good thing is that children were not impacted, at all. The kids are safe, and learning did not miss a beat because of this."
As for Kuntz, police charged him with breaking and entering. He was taken to the Adult Detention Center, Monday morning, and released, later that day, on $1,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing, March 8, in Fairfax County General District Court.
