Welcome ...

Dear New Neighbor,

A very warm welcome to the City of Fairfax! I am truly glad you are here!

There is a debate going on whether Fairfax City is a large family pretending to be a city, or whether it is a city presenting itself as an extended family. Now that you live in one of our many lovely, green neighborhoods, surrounded by new friends, attractive homes and quiet shady streets, you will have to judge for yourself.

Even more than the many tree-filled parks, fine schools, cultural events, and city services unmatched in Northern Virginia for their excellence, you will find that it is the people of Fairfax City who make the city what it is. Many folks like myself have come from other states to live and work in Washington, D.C. and, by great good luck, we discovered quiet little Fairfax tucked away in its green hills. It is a haven of peace in the otherwise noisy, bustling, traffic-filled Washington, D.C. environs. Once you have put your feet down in Fairfax City, you will quickly develop deep roots here. Indeed, the great majority of folks who are lucky enough to discover Fairfax City grow so attached to this extended family we call a city that they never leave.

Take time to just walk around — yes, you can easily walk around your new city! Visit Old Town Hall; Truro Rectory — scene of Mosby's famous midnight raid in 1863; the home where the beautiful Confederate spy, Antonia Ford, once lived; the Old Courthouse built in 1800 that houses George Washington's Will. Take in a concert at George Mason University. Wander around Van Dyck Park or one of our other city parks. Dine at one of our more than 100 excellent restaurants.

But first, say hello to your neighbors on either side of you. You will find they are some of the warmest, friendliest folks you will ever meet. Once you've made friends with your neighbors, and become acquainted with the City of Fairfax, like me, you'll want to stay!

Welcome to our extended family!

Very sincerely,

Larry Lamborn
