Medical care is available for qualifying low-income Alexandria residents who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness. Proof of income is required. Appointments are necessary for every service except sick child care. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Adolescent Health Clinic

Alexandria adolescents, ages 12 to 19, can receive health care at no charge through the clinic. Services include physicals, immunizations, counseling, treatment of minor illnesses, family planning, pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted disease treatment, HIV treatment and counseling, and health education. By appointment. Walk-ins are taken as time permits. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Arlandria Health Center

For women and children. Services provided are well child care, immunizations, school physicals, sick child care, family planning, HIV testing and counseling, and other women's health services. All services are offered in English or Spanish. Walk-ins and appointments. The center is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Services include psychiatric treatment and counseling for adults, youth and families; in-patient and out-patient treatment; 24-hour emergency service; community support programs including day support, and residential and vocational services.

<lst>The Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross

Provides disaster relief and recovery services following local fires. The Chapter's Health and Safety Services office offers first aid and CPR courses, lifeguard training, HIV/AIDS education and much more. The chapter also offers a transportation program to help seniors get to and from medical appointments and works in conjunction with the commonwealth's attorney's office and the sheriff's office to provide assistance to victims of crime.
Substance Abuse Detoxification Center

Out-patient services include individual and group counseling for substance abusers as well as a methadone clinic. Alexandria residents must pay a fee based on a sliding scale. Hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. An in-patient, two-week program is also offered.
